Maria Jacket | Patterned Silk-wool Blend
£250.00
A collarless jacket with a clean neckline, cut boxy through the body and cropped to sit just above the hip. Fully lined. Button fastening down the front, two discreet side pockets. This one is in a Stephen Walters & Sons silk-wool blend, fine and warm in equal measure, chosen for its delicate weave and subtle texture, that drapes well and softens with wear.
Inspired by Maria’s homemade clothes in The Sound of Music: simple, humble, made rather than bought. The idea was a jacket with nothing decorative about it, just clean lines and comfort, that still manages to look put together.
This blend combines silk and wool, taking silk’s fine texture and subtle sheen with wool’s warmth and structure. It drapes with more ease than wool alone, while holding its shape better than silk alone.
This silk is woven by Stephen Walters & Sons, the oldest silk-weaving company in Great Britain, tracing back to 1720 and based at Sudbury Silk Mills. They wove the fabric for Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation robe and the silk for Diana, Princess of Wales’s wedding dress, using both traditional skills and modern jacquard looms.
